A New MSE Approach for Combined Linear-Viterbi Equalizers

چکیده
Combined linear-Viterbi equalization (CLVE) is a technique that employs a linear prelter in conjunction with the Viterbi algorithm (VA) to mitigate the e ects of intersymbol interference. The aim of the linear prelter is to shape the original channel impulse response to some shorter desired impulse response (DIR) in order to reduce the complexity of the VA. In this paper, we present a new MSEbased approach for optimizingCLVEs. This approach takes advantage of the recent modi cations to the VA which are suitable for channels having coarsely located coe cients. Speci cally, the new approach has the exibility in choosing the positions and optimizing the values of nonzero coe cients of DIR. As a result, it includes the conventional MSE-based approaches as a special case. Simulation results have been presented to illustrate the performance of proposed method.

Effective MSE Criterion for Combined Linear-Viterbi Equalization
Combined linear-Viterbi equalizer (CLVE) is a class of receivers employing a linear pre-filter before the Viterbi algorithm (VA) in order to shape the original channel impulse response to some shorter desired impulse response which allows a lower complexity VA. In this paper, we present a new approach for optimizing CLVEs by making use of the Genetic Algorithm to minimize the effective mean squ...

In this work new Decision-Feedback (DF) Neural Equalizers (DFNE) are introduced and compared with classical DF equalizers and Viterbi demodulators. It is shown that the choice of an innovative cost functional based on the Discriminative Learning (DL) technique, coupled with a fast training paradigm, can provide neural equalizers that outperform standard DF equalizers (DFEs) at practical signal ...
متن کاملThe structure and design of realizable decision feedback equalizers for IIR channels with colored noise
A simple algorithm for optimizing decision feedback equalizers by minimizing the mean square error (MSE) is presented. A complex baseband channel and correct past decisions are assumed. The dispersive channel may have innnite impulse response and the noise may be coloured. We consider optimal realizable (stable and nite-lag smoothing) forward and feedback lters in discrete time. They are parame...
متن کاملEffects of colored noise on the performance of linear equalizers
Performance of equalizers depends on the discrete time model of the input signal and noise. The use of higher sampling rate results in colored noise when the bandwidth of the noise-limiting prefilter is not sufficiently large. It is shown that the mean square error (MSE) performance of linear equalizers becomes sensitive to the decision delay when the input noise is colored, and by using the ap...
